Problem Finding

Problem Finding is one of six PQK tracks. It produces an inspectable object and a set of questions a later critique could reuse.

Keep seeing, guessing, and wishing in different columns

PQK’s first resource is an observation log that blocks early conclusions. A setting, a direct observation, an interpretation, and a remaining question sit in four columns. Examples here do not use real unauthorized people.

Four-column noticing log

Date the row. If you did not see it, it does not go in the observation column.

SettingDirect observationInterpretation (guess)Still a question

Teaching row (fictional classroom, not a named school). Setting: after lunch, corridor queue. Observation: ten students waited more than four minutes at one fountain. Interpretation: “the fountain is broken” — still a guess. Question: does wait time drop if a second tap is opened, measured on two days?
